Course Description

Do you know when to “tweet,” to “Instagram,” or to use a hashtag? This TCU Extended Education course begins with the basics of common social media platforms (i.e. Facebook and Twitter) and ends with the latest information on new platforms, privacy rights, and personal branding for recreational and professional purposes. Participants have opportunities to build individual websites with assistance. Long-range planning goals will be encouraged as participants design individual project plans. No experience necessary. Computers will be available for use in TCU’s New Media Writing Studio, but participants are welcome to bring and use their own laptops if preferred. Tuition includes lab fee.

Course Website

This was another course I developed for TCU Extended Education and taught for 3 semesters. The course focused primarily on social media theory and application, covering the most common social media platforms and reviewing information on privacy rights and personal branding. Facebook Group

As an online supplement to our learning, students joined a course Facebook group with which students practiced developing groups and shared a number of tools and readingsthat further developed their learning of social media--within a social media platform. To view the Facebook page, click here

Pinterest Page

Pinterest.com is one of the leading search engines preferred by social media mavens, many of whom use to share, or "pin," various tips, tricks, recipes, life hacks, interesting articles or blogs, and infographics. What started as a searchable repository of information for myself as I developed the class soon became a third space where students could view and share interesting content.
